Joan K. Berryhill, M.S., OTR/L
Joan has been a practicing occupational therapist for the past 26 years and has worked primarily with children in the past 21 years. She has experience working in a variety of settings, including homes, schools, pediatric rehabilitation hospitals, and pediatric therapy clinics.
Joan graduated with a B.A., magnum cum laude in Planned Studies, emphasizing Elementary Science Education, from Ithaca College in 1974. Her interests in teaching at the preschool and primary levels led to obtaining a Preschool to 6th grade NY State Teaching Certification in 1979. After working in a variety of teaching positions, Joan’s quest for the right professional ‘fit’ led her to the field of occupational therapy. Joan then furthered her education with a B.S. in Occupational Therapy from Washington University, St. Louis in 1984 and an M.S.in Occupational Therapy in 1985.
In addition to her collegiate studies, Joan has received specialized training in areas such as: Advanced Therapeutic Listening with Vital Links, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Dyspraxia, pediatric Neurodevelopmental Treatment, Sensory Processing Disorder, Diana Henry’s Sensory Tool Kit, visual acuity and visual processing deficits, seating and positioning and assistive technology. She has expertise in the following treatment techniques: the Alert Program for Self-Regulation: How Does your Engine Run; the Wilbarger Protocol - Deep Pressure Proprioceptive Treatment, the Visual-Cochlear-Vestibular Triad with the Astronaut Training Protocol; Bonding and Relaxation massage Technique (BART); Debra Beckman’s oral motor techniques and treatment for sensory motor feeding impairments; and NDT. She has also broadened her learning with areas as diverse as the TARA approach to Jin Shin energy techniques and manual therapy treatment.
Joan says that her greatest enjoyment is “watching a child’s potential unfold and evolve and networking as a team player with parents to allow this to happen.”
Joan lives in Norman, OK with her husband and son. In her free time she performs with a medieval/renaissance music group. She enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities.
